SPRINGTIME RENEWAL

Sporadic sunshine, sudden downpours, a lingering chill in the air and the first brave blooms – signs that winter may finally be taking its curtain call and Spring is stepping onto the stage.

This winter seems to have lasted an age – particularly here in the UK, where it feels like it’s rained nearly every day. We’ve all felt it, both physically and mentally and longed for lighter days and a fresh change of pace.

Spring has always been a season that inspires me to soften, refresh and realign – both within myself and within the spaces I live, work, or randomly find myself in. It’s also at the heart of why I created Sunny Wellness: the belief that the most powerful transformations often begin with the smallest, gentlest intentions… little steps and small joys that bring us closer to inner peace and outer joy.

With change in the air, we feel the urge to let in some light – both physically and mentally – inviting new energy, fresh perspectives and the spark of a new hobby or goal. Ideas that were quietly germinating in the darkness of winter finally begin to bloom, gathering momentum. Spaces, objects, books and pictures that sat still for months under the cloak of seasonal gloom seem to call out for fresh air, as if asking to lift the dust of winter and sprinkle some springtime stardust. Our bodies and moods, also held tight by the darker season, start to crave renewal and rejuvenation. Below are my gentle recommendations for calling in Spring this year – small shifts to help restore your mind, body and space.

RESET your MOOD!

Out with the old, in with the new – a phrase we hear all the time, whether it concerns clothes, relationships, or even the thoughts we let live rent-free in our minds. There’s something extremely liberating about letting go of things that no longer hold value. The mind works in the same way; we all subconsciously hold onto emotional clutter, old stories and versions of ourselves we’ve quietly outgrown.

Regulating our mood is an ongoing process – ideally something we should tend to daily – but life doesn’t always allow that. Many of us can get stuck on the ever-spinning hamster wheel, carrying more mental weight than we realise. Spiritual and energetic practices such as meditation, yoga and reiki can help alleviate and reset both the mind and body, helping us shift into a lighter, more positive emotional space.

Springtime is the perfect backdrop for this, with nature itself releasing, renewing and making room for new growth. It becomes a natural moment for us too, to let go of emotional baggage and breathe in something fresher.

Even tiny acts can be effective: taking a walk on your lunch break, sitting amongst twittering birds, or enjoying a gym session after work all play their part in regulating the mood. Daily journaling is another powerful tool – almost like emptying a drawer in your mind. It lets you offload the mental “rubbish” or clutter that builds up during the day, leaving your mind clearer and softer for the next morning.

Here are a few easy mood-resetters you can try:

Journaling before bed – Write a short account of your day and release any thoughts you don’t want to carry into tomorrow. Celebrate the good bits and gently let go of anything that felt heavy or that you don’t wish to revisit the following day. Writing an account before sleep gently allows the mind to retrace the events of the day and helps it release them – both good and bad. With everything jotted down on a journal page, your mind has far less to revisit whilst you sleep.

Meditation – 5–10 minutes in the morning or evening can work wonders. Sit quietly and focus on your breath and let your mind soften. It can be a little tricky at first, but with perseverance and practice, the long-term benefits are so worth it!

Tiny goals, easy wins – Write a small list of things you want to achieve this month or year. Start with the simple, achievable ones and build up slowly. Those little wins will create momentum, bring in confidence and boost your mood all in one go!

Less screen time – Leave your phone in another room for an hour or set a timer if that helps. Reduce that doom scrolling! Give your mind a moment to breathe.

Nature moments – Step into the garden, wander through a park, or sit anywhere that’s green! Let nature do what it does best: ground, calm and spark inspiration. Bring your journal if you fancy a little reflecting or want to get those new ideas down!

A mindful cup of something warm – Tea, coffee, hot chocolate… Drink it slowly without multitasking. It’s a tiny ritual that signals your mind to slow down.

A two-minute reset – Stretch your shoulders, roll your neck, open a window, or take a few deep breaths. Quick but surprisingly very effective

And once your mind feels a little less burdensome and a touch lighter and the mood has had its own mini spring-clean, it’s a great time to bring in a few tools to keep those good vibes flowing. Crystals and gemstones have this wonderful energy about them – they can help nudge us back into alignment, bring in some much-needed balance, uplift us when we’re ready, or give us a super-boost of positive energy as we step into this fresh new season.

CRYSTALS for SPRING

Crystals are a wonderful way to step into Spring with intention – especially those that support fresh perspectives, new ideas, a sense of balance and that little burst of “new season energy.” Some crystals help align your thoughts as you shift into a new era, others are perfect for grounding in nature and a few bring in a bold, unrestricted – almost fearless energy, for conquering new goals.

Here are my Top 3 crystal recommendations for Springtime:

MOSS AGATE

Moss Agate is the perfect companion for Springtime adventures. It’s deeply aligned with nature and the great outdoors, making it ideal to keep with you while wandering freely among trees or greenery. Its grounding qualities help you connect with the earth, naturally supporting a calmer, more stabilised mood.

Take a piece with you on a walk in the woods, pause under a tree and breathe in the fresh spring air – exhaling whatever wintry energy still clinging on. Moss Agate is also brilliant for concentration and focus, especially during those (and let’s be honest, not always welcome) spring decluttering sessions where procrastination likes to creep in!

CITRINE

Citrine is one of the most powerful and joyous crystals out there – the kind of stone that practically beams you into Spring with its bright, uplifting energy. It brings a super-charged boost to any new intentions or goals you’re setting, infusing them with bold, unshakeable optimism.

If the winter season left you feeling a little sluggish or stuck, Citrine is wonderful for shaking off those blues, stagnant thoughts and clearing space for fresh ideas to come in. It’s very forward-thinking by nature – all about growth, momentum and that feeling of stepping into a new chapter with a clear, confident mind! Citrine is also said to aid the flow of money and abundance into your life, so if you have money on your mind or want to start attracting more abundance, Citrine is your go-to crystal for support.

GREEN AVENTURINE

Perhaps you’re not quite ready to burst into full Spring mode yet- and that’s completely fine, Green Aventurine is your gentle nudge into the great bloom. Not as “in your face” energy-wise as Citrine, Green Aventurine has a softer touch, but don’t underestimate it, its magic works steadily and powerfully over time.

This crystal supports new intentions, fresh opportunities and a sense of renewed optimism. It’s wonderful for easing away stubborn moods or that lingering winter sluggishness. If you’re thinking of spring cleaning or decorating, Green Aventurine is perfect for clearing creative blocks and helping ideas flow with ease – like opening a window and letting new air (and some new inspiration!) drift in.

ESSENTIAL OIL magic

And once you’ve invited in a little crystal magic to support your energy this season, another beautiful way to deepen that sense of renewal is through essential oils. Just like crystals, they work subtly but powerfully, shifting mood, refreshing your space and helping you connect more intentionally with the fresh, vibrant energy of Spring!

Essential oils can be a fantastic way to invigorate your body, mind and space. There are so many beautiful oils to lean on during this season – some for grounding and contemplation, others for spiritual practice, freshening your space (and your mood) and some that help get your body moving and feeling energised!

Here are my Top 3 recommendations for Springtime!

LEMON

Nothing screams freshness more than Lemon! The zingy, zesty punch you get when inhaling this scent does wonders for your mood. It’s such a versatile essential oil to keep in your collection and can be used for a multitude of things.

I recommend adding a few drops of Lemon essential oil to a diffuser first thing in the morning to purify the air in your living space. It instantly freshens the room and gives you a little spring in your step too.

PEPPERMINT

Another punchy essential oil that practically shouts, “Wake up! Spring is here!” With its menthol qualities that help clear the airways, Peppermint is perfect to use when exercising or heading out for a run.

A drop of diluted Peppermint oil behind each ear is a classic pick-me-up when you’re feeling dull, uninspired, or lethargic – it’ll help you get moving again and feel ready for the outdoors.

You can also inhale Peppermint on a tissue to breathe out the winter gloom and welcome in a fresh spring dawn. Similarly to Lemon, Peppermint can be diffused to invigorate your workspace – ideal for that post-lunch afternoon slump!

Also, why not add a drop to some warm water and give your worktops a quick menthol refresh? For extra cleansing power, add a little Tea Tree essential oil as well.

BALANCE BLEND

Balance Blend from doTERRA is one I highly recommend. It’s a powerful grounding mix of essential oils that helps bring your mood into the present moment, easing anxiety and softening any future worries. As Spring begins to pull us out of that heavier winter energy, this blend offers the perfect anchor – helping you feel centred while everything around you starts to shift, brighten and grow again.

This blend keeps you calmly focused on important tasks and it’s also the perfect companion for those Sunday morning spring hikes. Roll a little onto the soles of your feet or cup your hands and inhale deeply to fully immerse yourself in the fresh, earthy energy of the season. Why not try a short meditation while wrapped in the grounding aroma of this beautiful blend?

For a touch of extra grounding, why not try the Balance Bath Bar to make bathtime or showering a little more mindful?

As your energy begins to lift and your senses take an optimistic turn, it’s the perfect moment to turn that same fresh Spring intention toward the spaces you live and work in. A renewed environment has a magical way of supporting a renewed mind and outlook – and even the tiniest shifts can make your home feel lighter, calmer and more aligned with the season.

RESET your SPACE

We’ve all been there – unused items and clothes stacked in a corner, old books and magazines piling up, the dresser drawer refusing to open thanks to the unimaginable odds and ends jammed inside and those hard-to-reach corners quietly collecting cobwebs. Spring invites us to shake off that stale energy and let some much-needed lightness back in.

Here are some gentle, doable ways to refresh your space and welcome in the new season:

A Five-Minute Freshen (per room)

Set a timer for just five minutes and choose one area – your bedside table, the coffee table, your desk, or the hallway shelf. Quickly remove anything that doesn’t belong there. You’ll be surprised at how much lighter the room feels after such a tiny ritual.

Open the Windows + Energy Reset

Let the spring air flow through your home, even if only for a few minutes. Pair this with a diffuser blend of Lemon or Peppermint to help sweep away that winter heaviness and bring in a bright, invigorating mood. The combination of fresh air plus fresh scent is wonderfully transformative with very little effort. And if you work from home, this makes a perfect morning ritual to keep that fresh, vibrant energy flowing right from the start of the day.

The “One Shelf Refresh” Rule

Rather than tackling a whole room, choose just one shelf, drawer, or surface. Clear it, wipe it down and put back only what you love or use. This creates a visual “pocket of calm” that can inspire you to keep going without feeling overwhelmed. For a little extra organisation, keep a spare box nearby where you can place any unwanted items ready for recycling or charity – a simple way to keep the decluttering momentum going.

Create a Wellness Corner

Spring is also a beautiful time to create a small spiritual or inspiration corner in your home – a little sanctuary just for you.

Think of it as a mini shrine or contemplation nook, featuring:

  • A favourite crystal or two
  • An essential oil diffuser
  • A journal
  • A candle
  • Statues, picture or photos
  • A grounding item from nature you collected (pressed flower, a stone, an acorn or feather)

It doesn’t have to be big – just intentional. A place you return to when you need to breathe, reset, or reconnect.

Refresh Your Bedroom Flow

Make your bed the heart of the room – smooth the duvet, plump the pillows and perhaps switch to lighter bedding if you can. Add a spritz of a spring-inspired linen spray or diffuse a grounding blend before sleep to create a calm, cosy atmosphere. Clearing your bedside tables of clutter makes your mornings feel instantly calm and keeping on top of the dusting helps maintain that fresh, airy feeling throughout the season.

BRING the OUTDOORS in

I’m very big on bringing nature into my living space and it truly is one of the simplest and most joyful ways to welcome Spring into your home. Fresh flowers have an incredible ability to lift your mood, brighten a room and gently remind you of the renewal happening all around you. I keep fresh flowers indoors all year round but during Springtime the feeling just hits differently there’s something extra joyful about the ritual of adding those vibrant splashes of pastel colour into your living environment.

I sometimes pick flowers from my garden to bring indoors and if you’re lucky enough to have flowers growing outside, bringing a few of those in adds an extra layer of that Springtime, outdoors-in feeling. It’s a beautiful way to blur the line between inside and out and to feel more connected to the season and nature unfolding just beyond your door.

Choose blooms that speak to the season: tulips, hyacinths, peonies, or daffodils all bring that unmistakable Spring vibrancy. Place a small vase in your living room, kitchen worktop, on your bedside table, or even beside your work desk. It’s a tiny shift that instantly elevates your space and keeps your energy aligned with the freshness and optimism of the season.

You might be surprised at how something as simple as a few stems in a jar can make your home feel more alive, more inspired and more connected to the world waking up outside your window.

Closing Thoughts

Resetting your space in Spring doesn’t need to be some grand project that adds unnecessary stress – small, mindful shifts are often the ones that have the biggest impact on your energy. A refreshed environment supports a refreshed you and these gentle touches help create a home that mirrors the lighter, brighter season you’re stepping into.

Just as important as clearing your physical space, are the little adjustments you make within – a few minutes of journaling, a walk outdoors, a mindful breath or two, or a simple reset with crystals and essential oils that resonate with your mood or intention. With the help of some of nature’s best gifts and a handful of supportive habits – you can release the heaviness of the colder months and ease yourself into the year ahead feeling renewed from the inside out.

Happy Spring,
